Wednesday night we made our way to Children's Mercy Park where our MLS team, Sporting KC, plays. I was excited as this was my first Sporting game of the season AND we received free tickets while we were at the Plaza Art Fair. I guess that should have been my first clue - this was not a MLS game, rather it was a game against Central FC as part of the CONCACAF Champions League. Therefore, the team we fielded was mainly reserves and the stadium was pretty empty. I was sad because the "I Believe That We Will Win" chant that is always booming from the Cauldron was practically non-existent. Luckily, the beer was still cold and the company was even better. We managed to watch the first half from our cold, windy seats before retreating to the Boulevard Members Club to warm up and catch some of the baseball playoffs. Sporting KC won the game 3-1!
Thursday found Stephanie and me back out at Kauffman Stadium ready to throw down at the annual Season Ticket Holder Seat Upgrade day. We were doing a favor for a friend and were entrusted with running through the stadium in hopes of finding him better seats for his season tickets. We sat through a quick orientation and were then let loose to find seats. We, obviously, had a plan of attack and split the lower level first base side. We found 4 seats together that were lower and closer to home so Stephanie made the quick call to see if these were the ones.
There was a guy on the phone behind us making a call as well so I headed towards the attendant who was required to pull the markers off the seats for you in order to get them. It was intense! Once Steph gave me the signal, I grabbed her and the seats were OURS! Well, not really ours, but it still felt like a sweet victory! Once the seats were secured, we were able to explore parts of the field, dugouts, and locker rooms. We even got to see the World Series trophy in person! And, no, they wouldn't let us touch it...Steph asked instead of just doing it...so out of character for her!
Saturday started off with me taking Barley to go watch Stephanie and Andrea C. play softball. We try to make it to one of their tournaments a summer and this was my last chance. Unfortunately, they lost their second game of the day (as is the case in most of their tournaments - even though they claim to be the best team there year in and year out). Of course, that didn't keep us from staying and watching the remaining games as the weather was beautiful. I failed to take any pictures of the softball game but managed to catch Barley getting some serious belly rubs from Stephanie!
Saturday night was spent at Shauna and Michael's annual Halloween party! Well, most of us made it...Billy had to stand in for Andrea as she wasn't feeling the greatest. We missed you Andrea! Shauna and Michael put on a great party with fun food, drinks, and music. There were some great costumes and our good friend Andrea C. won the costume contest by dressing up as The Michael Newton! Steph was a close second with her best Michael Jackson Thriller impressions (she needs to work on her moon walk). Leslie and I danced the night away in our fabulous 80's gear. We can officially check off "Costume Party" from our Fall Bucket List!
The rest of the weekend was spent watching football and resting up so we can do it all again this week! Until next time...
