We’ve been a little MIA lately and it’s only because we went to VEGAS!!! Let me tell you 6 readers that have been missing us, it was awesome! Kristi’s mom (hi Carla!!) invited us all along on a great trip. Our party of 5 (the max per the cab stand) stayed at The Linq, which used to be Imperial Palace. They have really turned that place around!
We arrived and Carla and Kristi headed down to the super fancy free happy hour. Steph, Andrea and I opened the wine we brought in our suitcases…because we are classy like that! After a glass bottle or two, it was time to get ready for dinner. We were all feeling good by now, so the walk to the Cromwell (formerly Wild Bills) was a good and short break. Carla and Stephanie heard the call of the casino floor while the rest of us went up to Giada’s.
Giada’s is beautiful! Great ambiance and décor. We met the cutest couple at the bar celebrating their anniversary. We chatted them up while we waited for our table and didn’t even realize it was almost an hour past our reservation until Carla and Steph joined us. Carla took care of whipping the hostess into shape because we needed food stat! The food was really good, but the service was less than stellar. Overall we were a little disappointed and had to leave wine on the table because the dancing (if you want to call it that) had already begun!
Kristi, Andrea, and I still wanted to party, so we put the other 2 to bed and headed to O’Shay’s. It’s pretty much a Vegas must do. Beer pong, cheap tables, leprechaun kisses…what more do you need???
We were awoken by a very ready to party Steph at 7:15AM….yes early morning for Vegas!!! Especially for those of us who stayed out late partying with said leprechauns! But we managed to roll out of bed and get ready to party.
The party started at The Peppermill and Fireside Lounge. Yes, the very same place you’ve seen in movies such as Casino and Showgirls! Kristi, Steph and I had been here before on a first date between Stephanie and a nice guy from Vegas. We went to the Fireside Lounge side and enjoyed the sweet sunken living room that time, so we decided it was time to try the real food on the Peppermill side.
It did not disappoint. Portions the size of my head! My meal almost didn’t fit in one photo!! Important to note: they do not sell peppermills so don’t go there thinking you’re going to get a sweet new pepper crusher for your kitchen- just to be let down.
Stuffed with food and 70’s vibes put us in the perfect mood to head to Fremont Street for some beers and people watching. Andrea had never been, so she was in for quite a treat!
We got our photo taken with $1 MILLION at Binions and then grabbed some beers for some people watching. If you ever go to Freemont Street, I highly recommend the drinking game of 1 drink per weird thing you see. We went through a few beers very fast! We didn’t realized the canopy wouldn’t be lit up during the day at all so we settled for watching bums dance (and take off clothes) to some street singers and their sweet boom box.
KU played on this night, so we needed to get back to the strip to cheer on Carla, Kristi, and Andrea’s team. After a quick stop at the Laguna Champagne Bar (because it’s a champagne bar, obviously) in the Palazzo. We found a place to watch.
Where better than the VIP seats at Lagasse’s?? Nowhere…no where better...literally nowhere better; unless you’re the guys we sat next to Kristi, Steph and Carla on the flight home that watched the games from their 3000sqft suite that had a butler….yeah that would be better! Braggers! Back to Lagasse’s - we sat next to 2 guys from western Kansas who knew what anal beads were and met Laroyne from Volvo of Vegas who had his own section each night of the weekend! It was amazing and KU won…off to the Elite 8!
This was quite a busy day. We slept in a little bit more and got up for lunch at Hash House a Go Go. I thought the portions at The Peppermill were big, but this was out of this world! I’ve never seen a chicken pot pie this big in my entire life. I think it weighed 10 pounds!!! The waitress laughed when we asked if anyone had ever finished it.
Warning-they make all of their food fresh, so the ticket time is around 40 minutes. Luckily you can order Hare of the Dog to pass the time. It happens to be a 24 ounce Bud or Bud Light in a brown paper bag (classy) with a side of bacon. How can you turn that down?!?!?!
After lunch we walked down to Cabo Wabo for some margaritas and more people watching. Cabo Wabo has a great patio that is pretty close to the Bellagio Fountains (you can see them from 1 table in the corner, not the entire row like we previously thought – we must have been drunk every time we’ve gone in the past). When we had enough margaritas, we walked all the way to Caesar’s pavilion before it was time for a drink break! More people watching…yes please!
Carla’s favorite restaurant on the Strip is Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak, and Stone Crab. The Whale appetizer, formerly known as The Second Mortgage, is to die for! So fresh and delicious. We watched my backup team (Gonzaga-go Zags) lose while we dined on amazing seafood and steaks.
What better way to burn off a great dinner, than laughing your booty off? We couldn’t think of any, so we checked out the Improv at Harrah’s. I have no idea who any of the comics were, but I was rolling the whole time! I think every single one of us busted out laughing out loud at some point during the show!
Because we hadn’t done enough for the day, we checked out the High Roller. It is a giant ferris wheel that overlooks the strip. Each pod holds a ton of people, so the wait was really short. I’m not sure if the extra $15/person would be worth it for the open bar in your pod for 2 reasons. One, you can take alcohol in yourself and two it’s only 30 minutes around. How much can you possibly drink in that amount of time? One girl in another group spent the entire time on the floor, so I’m not sure how much of the strip she saw…but to each their own! Her group didn’t seem concerned; they just kept taking pics with her. I also heard later that lots of people try to have sex on The High Roller, but they get caught every time…there are cameras everywhere!! People are not smart!
By Day 4 in Vegas, we were all dragging! Pretty tame day of lunch, pop a shot, and grabbing a table to watch the Elite 8 games. We watched OU and Buddy Heild crush the competition at the Tag sports bar in the Linq and then Andrea and I had to head off to the airport. So sad to leave!! We watched the KU game with an airport bar full of KU fans. After the heartbreaking loss, we boarded a plane to arrive home at 2am…just in time for Easter Sunday church! The other gals had to get up super early to head back to their families too.
Overall-amazing trip! Thanks Carla! I can’t wait for next year!
