Put me in coach I'm ready to play...today! What a glorious April day out at the K. 3 of us and an alternate by the name of Billy decided to take in America's past time and participate in one of the best days of the year in Kansas City: Opening Day. Temps were in the 70's and so were the wind gusts or so it felt.
After a "secret road" experience that nearly became a game of chicken we rolled into the parking lot just after 4:00pm. We knew not what our next step would be in this parking lot party roulette so we decided to drink a beer and ponder. Within 5 minutes we had our next step and were headed to the BluSky tent party. Had 3 out of the 4 of us ever heard of this company? No, but that didn't stop us from partaking in their delicious spread of food, booze, dj and an ice shot luge. After 2 hours of mingling with strangers/coworkers and losing some hearing it was time to line-up to get in the gates.
Before heading in we looked for one of Andrea's contractors but to no avail. We stood in a line as long as the Mets tears from last year's World Series and waited for the magical moment when we could walk through the gates. It wasn't but 5 minutes in line that we were able to track down the before mentioned contractor so a couple of us stopped by his tailgate and, ahem, got more libations for the group waiting in line.
We were in! Blue rally towel and magnetic schedule in hand we were like kids in a candy store that couldn't wait to partake in the $10 beer specials the K was running all night long! We ran into Kristi's brother and sister in-law right away (naturally) and then headed UP to our seats. We weren't the last row in the house but we were certainly close. It didn't matter. When that world championship flag was raised and the pre game highlight video played goosebumps and smiles could be seen from the crown seats to the cheap seats. Could we get back to a 3rd straight World Series?!? Only time and 162 games would tell.
This picture perfect day ended with a picture perfect 4-3 victory over the Mets. What a great way to start the season. We'll see these boys in blue many more times this summer and let's hope late in October as well! GO ROYALS!!
