TBP - Throw Back Post

Welcome to our first TBP! Every once in awhile we are going to share some of our past adventures that we think deserve blog time.

Our first TBP is Playa Mujeres, Mexico 2015. We went to Playa for our friends Corey and Lacey's wedding. Who wouldn't want 30 of your closest friends to join you on your destination wedding? The answer...just now may be Corey & Lacey...that's who!

DFW - home sweet home

DFW - home sweet home

The trip began with most of our group getting to the Kansas City airport early in the morning with the fearlessness that we could beat Hurricane Bill to the Dallas-Fort Worth airport. We may have been delayed 6 hours, ran MCI out of beer in the terminal, and had Steph's mom hand deliver pizza...but by golly, we were the last flight to DFW to make it out of Kansas City. This, of course, meant our group missed our connecting flights to Cancun. Have you ever tried to fly standby with 15 or so people? It sucks. Luckily, all but 4 of us made flights that night. Unfortunately, 4 of us (including me and Steph), got to spend the night at DFW. Let me remind you that DFW is NOT an All-Inclusive like Secrets Playa. Boo! Oh, and word to the wise, ALWAYS keep your receipts for any expenses incurred while delayed over night. That Wine Bar bill was a big one!

We made the first flight to Cancun the next morning and arrived at Secrets Playa along with everyone else's luggage.  We were greeted with a welcome cocktail in the grand and open aired lobby. Check in was a breeze (<--pun intended) and Stephanie and I ended up in a Junior Suite Swim Out room.  There was a little swimming moat around our building that was great, except that it brought little crabs to our patio.  That would have been fine had they not tapped on the sliding glass door all night long...and, there was that one night they were walking around our room since we didn't shut the door all the way!

Protected Flora and Fauna at Secrets Playa Mujeres

Protected Flora and Fauna at Secrets Playa Mujeres

This resort is extremely big and has two main areas separated by a protected flora and fauna space.  One area contains the lobby, business center, fitness center, spa and a few restaurants.  The other area that is closer to the ocean is where you will find the rooms, pools, restaurants and bars.  Thankfully, Secrets provides golf cart service between the two areas! We started every morning at the Market Cafe with mimosas (shocking, I know!).  We also enjoyed the Seaside grill for steaks, Portofino for Italian, and Himitsu for some Asian flare.  One night, Leslie and Andrea even joined Corey on his spontaneous "2nd bachelor party" at the Piano Bar!  Our days were spent in the pool drinking Dirty Monkeys and guessing who had been in the pool the longest without leaving to use the restroom!  This resort certainly does not lack on food, drink and pool choices!

Oh, and let's not forget, we attended a wedding! Lacey and Corey's Big Day was beautiful. They were married on the beach with the ocean waves crashing behind them. Their vows were perfect and both couldn't stop smiling. We can't thank them enough for including us on their special day.

Friends!

Friends!

So, how do you celebrate a wedding at an All-Inclusive resort? Well, you go on a booze cruise! Or, to be politically correct for the bride's sake, a Sunset Dinner Cruise! We took a short bus ride and boarded the boat shortly before sunset. Delicious food was served and the drinks were flowing. Nothing like dancing the night away with your best friends on a boat!

We had such a wonderful time on this trip and would highly recommend Playa Mujeres and the Secrets resort.  We are already trying to convince Lacey and Corey that we should all go back next year for their anniversary!
