This weekend was full of randomness! Random workouts, dinners, and...surgeries!
On Saturday, my gym, Iron Tribe Fitness, hosted a free class at one of our local Lululemon stores. I'll pretty much do anything to step foot in a Lululemon...even workout! Leslie joined me as we went through a circut of shuttle runs, abs, and squat box jumps. It was fun to share my gym's environment with some new faces even if the workout wasn't too difficult.
On Sunday, Leslie and I decided to slow it down and join CorePower Yoga for a "Burpees and Bloody Marys" class at one of our local distilleries, Lifted Spirits. I guess I should have suspected yoga with burpees in the title would be more than just yoga! This was a yoga/sculpt class that was way more intense than we both expected. It was a great workout in a neat environment!
Bonus - Bloody Marys and Mimosas were available to purchase after class. So, naturally, Leslie and I stuck around to enjoy a from scratch Bloody Mary made with jalapeño vodka. The drink was pretty good and it just so happens that Lifted Spirits participates in our Winter Warmer Passport Program. So, we had to stick around and try out The Midwinter cocktail. It was made with Gin, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, cocoa, and bitters. It was a perfect cocktail on a chilly morning.
Now on to the fun stuff - food! Kansas City Restaurant Week is one of our favorite annual Kansas City events. Local restaurants offer multi-course lunch and dinner menus for $15 and $33, respectively. Over 180 KC restaurants participated this year and 10% of proceed will go to local charities such as BoysGrow, Cultivate Kansas City, and the Children's Center for the Visually Impaired. The event has donated more than $1.4 million to area nonprofits in the last seven years! We love this event as it encourages us to try new restaurants and maybe even order something you normally wouldn't - like dessert!! On Friday, I enjoyed a fantastic salad, hanger steak, and chocolate pie from Rye. I'd only previously been to brunch at Rye and loved the dinner! On Saturday, Leslie, Steph and I tried Sullivan's Steak House. We really went out of our comfort zone and all had medium rare filets, green beans, and horseradish mashed potatoes for our entree. Les and I enjoyed the shrimp and lobster bisque and Steph had the Caesar salad for our starters. We finished with their famous bananas foster bread pudding and Key Lime pie.
Are you starting to wonder if we kicked Andrea out of the blog? Well, we tried, but she knows all our passwords so we're kind of stuck with her. Just kidding! Our fellow adventurer was down and out after having sinus surgery on Friday. We swung by to say hello and check on her before our Sullivan's dinner on Saturday. She is doing better this week and we hope that this surgery will do the trick and she'll feel much better once healed. Get Better Andrea - we need our fourth adventurer!!
