Last weekend was a bit of a recovery weekend for us since we just got back from Destin, Florida with The 24 Best Friends That Anyone Could Have. And how does Unfiltered Adventure recover? Well, with a giant wine tasting! Leslie, Stephanie and I attended Uncorked 90+, which was held at historic Union Station. Uncorked 90+ offered samplings of over 100 wines from across the globe with ratings of 90 points or higher. This was right up Stephanie's alley as she loves trying wines based off of their ratings! The 3 of us met up with a small group of my friends and tried to taste at every table while enjoying some throw back tunes being spun by the DJ. The event took place over 3 hours and by hour 3 you could tell the wine was kicking in.
Unfortunately, I didn't find too many wines that would be worth replacing my favorite Meiomi or our beloved boxed Vin Vault. The only wine I liked enough to take a picture of was the Cabernet Savignon from Niner Wine Estates (did I catch a niner in there?). It was at one of the last tables so I'm sure it will taste completely different the next time I try it. A quick Google search tells me the bottle is $40 from the vineyard so I will have to stick with the old faithfuls as my go-to wines. Overall, the event was a great time and the venue was perfect. Not too crowded and no long lines to get yourself a pour. I would definitely consider doing this event again next year. Oh, and by the way, Andrea had to work on Saturday...we didn't kick her out of the blog yet. We missed you Andrea!
After the wine tasting, we decided it would be a good idea to get a little food. We headed down to the Country Club Plaza to try out a new place called The Monarch Bar. The Monarch Bar is new cocktail bar and lounge that opened on the west side of the plaza and offers craft cocktails and small plates. The restaurant seats in 3 main areas, the Monarch Bar, the Parlour, and the Monarch Terrace. We sat outside on the terrace as we did not have reservations and the place was already packed. Gretchen, our server, gave us plenty of recommendations on food and drink and did a fantastic job of wrangling all 7 of us post wine tasting. I had The Viceroy to drink which was made with infused Tito's vodka, Auqufaba, lime, sugar, Gruet Rose, and last but not least a mint cloud. It was a light drink that would please a lot of palates. For small plates we had homemade chips and the Tonno Arrabiatta which was comprised of crispy risotto, tuna tartar, lemon, caper, and calabrian chile. The food was a perfect accompaniment to our drinks. I have a feeling The Monarch will be a new hot spot in Kansas City...it's perfect for happy hour, date night, or a girl's night out.
One would think we would head home after a jam packed day, but not UA. We were off to celebrate our friend Mickey's birthday at Johnny's Tavern. We quickly changed out of those dresses and into our favorite comfy tees and jeans for a few beers and maybe a fireball shot or two. Bobby even joined us! We played some Music Bingo which I was horrible at but certainly loved belting out 20 seconds worth of each song they played! Notice how many empty seats around us - we may or may not have voices of angels! Happy Birthday to Mickey!
Somehow, I managed to get up in time to make it to the Chiefs game on Sunday. Sunday's around here are for football and no one does it better than Kansas City fans! Tailgating consisted of Bloody Mary's, Morgan Mules (Moscow Mules made with Captain Morgan = delish), jalapeno poppers, and breakfast burritos. This all began in the parking lot around 9am. With a 12pm kickoff time you can only imagine the fun that was had. Once the game started, the fun continued as the Chiefs beat the Eagles to go 2-0 on the season. The hype is starting here in KC so I can only hope we follow through throughout the season!
It was exhausting writing all of this so I'm going to need a good night's sleep to do it all again this weekend. We have several fun things lined up so be sure to join us again next week for our regularly scheduled post!!
