Sometimes the stars align and your best friend's husband gets held up at work so you get an impromptu girls night at Louie's Wine Dive. Not only did we get the delicious BLT Deviled Eggs and Shrimp Diablo, but there was a bonus Wine Dabbler Event which meant we were able to blind taste eight 2 ounce pours of wines while judging our favorites from California and France. The Indy Broad Ripple - Wine Dabbler - Judgment of Paris, was formatted to replicate the epic “Judgement of Paris" blind tasting in 1976 where California and French wines faced off to win over world famous sommeliers. During this historic event, California wines took home the trophy - but this time it was up to us to decide which vine scored big! Once we decided which vendor earned our vote, we were rewarded with a FULL glass of our favorite wine for your decision & loyalty.
We had a blast and tried several fantastic wines. In the end both Leslie and I declared Sean Minor Cabernet Sauvignon the Winner and enjoyed our celebratory glass of the smooth cab. Fun fact, winemaker Sean Minor is from Kansas, unknowingly we chose the hometown favorite!
Here are the tasting notes from Mr. Sean Minor himself, "Our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a deep ruby color with aromas of cassis, cherry, blackberry and black currants. Once in your mouth the wine’s flavors of blackberries and plum integrate with a combination of oak and tannin nuances, creating a rich and full bodied wine experience. The soft tannins and sweet oak balance lead to a long and lingering finish. " Now that your mouth is watering you should head to Louie's Wine Dive, order a bottle and tell them Unfiltered Adventure sent you!
Saturday we decided to host one last pool party to wrap up Summer 2017. We always hate closing the pool, it makes me as sad as amputating White Swan's wing. RIP little wing.
Then there were feats of strength compiled into competitions involving a diving board, frisbees and pool floaties, obvi.
Later the Kansas City Royals were handling the Chicago White Sox, it was a perfect evening for a night swim, fire pit, and a victory from our boys in Blue.
Sunday we had the privilege of joining Lillyan's League at Arrowhead Stadium for the 22nd Annual Step Up For Down Syndrome Walk and Festival. It was so hot but Lillyan was a good sport! Did you know that Down syndrome is the most commonly occurring chromosomal condition? Approximately, 1 in every 700 babies in the United States is born with Down syndrome - about 6,000 each year. The DSG welcomes approximately 50 babies each year. The Down Syndrome Guild of Greater Kansas City (DSG) serves over 1,400 families and partners with 22 hospitals, 45 school districts and countless service providers in Kansas and Missouri. We decided to Step Up and support our friends Lucas, Klarisa, Malachi, and Lillyan and the work of the DSG by participating in this great event.
Checkout DSG for more information on how you can get involved! The Step Up event is shy of their goal, there is still time to make a donation! Click here to help exceed the $500k goal!
To cool off from the inferno that was Arrowhead Stadium's parking lot we headed to Kristi's house to cheer on the KC Chiefs. There was cold beer and air conditioning, what an awesome Sunday Funday! Basically the best possible place to smack talk our Fantasy Football opponents, i.e. Suck It Bobby!
Though Summer and our poolside shenanigans are winding down, we have Fall to look forward to. S'mores, beer tastings, football and dog park dates are a few of our favorite things. Lookout Summer, Fall is coming for you!
