Last Friday night was 7 months in the making. You see, it all started in April when we celebrated the month of Stephanie’s birth. Stephanie is one tough cookie to buy presents for (her usual wish for chap stick was going to have to wait for her Christmas stocking). It just so happens that she had recently seen an episode or two of Hollywood Medium. Not sure how such a show “randomly” started recording on the DVR. Have you seen this show? Tyler Henry is the medium of all mediums and does blind readings for Hollywood celebrities…and they made a show out of it! He is incredibly intuitive and almost always able to connect with someone from the other side. He is so endearing when he does readings. It’s no wonder why Hollywood is obsessed with him. Steph got really into the show and medium talk was at an all time high among our circle of friends.
So, what do you get the person who is hard to buy for and won’t stop talking about mediums??? Definitely NOT a medium. We searched high and low in the Kansas City area and just couldn’t find the right fit for what she wanted. Every medium we found either did group readings, were located in Topeka, or charged an arm and leg for them to do a home visit. It was a bust…our hand drawn “We Got You a Medium for your Birthday” card was worthless. That is until Andrea found our new friend Julie through a mutual friend. Julie is a tarot card reader and we thought - how fun does that sound? Andrea reached out to Julie and she responded with a personal “Let’s Celebrate Stephanie” proposal. I think Andrea booked her on the spot after seeing the thought she put in to getting back to us.
At this point, we were stoked to finally have something on the books for Stephanie’s big November Birthday Celebration (even if it was past her half birthday). We kept Stephanie in the dark about our shenanigans and labeled the event “W is for Wine” on the calendar. Her only instructions were to wear black and dress fancy. She swears up and down that we were going clubbing that night. She should know better! We were being fancy and staying in. We gathered at my house and opened a few bottles of wine while we chatted until it was time for Julie’s surprise arrival. We did introductions and she was thoughtful enough to bring Steph a bottle of wine for her birthday!
We gathered around my table and Julie got out several tarot decks. Did you know that all tarot decks have the same type of cards, suits, and meanings? Well they do, but the illustrations of the cards vary greatly and generally have a theme, such as animals, nature, or fantasy. It was nice she had a few options for us to choose from. So first, you pick what deck you want her to read, and then she can do a traditional layout or you can pick from her book of custom spreads. Her custom spreads had different card placements and general questions attached to each card placement. We let Stephanie begin and she chose the deck that spoke to her most and did a traditional layout. We all then followed up with our own readings using our hand picked decks and the spreads. I won’t go in to detail on everyone’s personal readings but let’s just say everyone was completely blown away by how accurate the cards were and how each card pertained to certain events, people, or places in your life. It was a fun to do this together as we could help each other interpret the cards or all gasp at the same time as the card is flipped and Julie explains the meaning behind it.
It’s safe to say that we all thoroughly enjoyed our readings and Julie couldn’t have been more fun! She was patient with our numerous questions and very detailed in her explanations of the individual cards and their meanings. We are all in agreeance that this is something we probably would have never done on our own but now know it is something we would do again in a heartbeat. I can’t recommend Julie enough and she was so kind and down to earth. We could hang out with her every night if she would let us!
