This last weekend was our annual trip to Georgetown, Colorado! If you are a loyal UA follower, you know that we love Georgetown and the long weekend getaways it offers. This year’s trip turned out to be the adventure where anything and everything went wrong. The trip started off on Friday evening with everyone running a little late. An hour and a half after we planned to leave, we were off! Since we got a late start, we put the pedal to the medal and made it a whole hour before stopping for a bathroom break. (Thanks Leslie!) Thanks to Stephanie and Billy’s driving skills, we ended up getting to Georgetown around 2am and went to bed at a reasonable 4am (turns out you get your second wind once you unpack a vehicle). The plan for Saturday was to sleep in, hang out, and go see the Ice Castles in Dillon. Turns out sleeping in is until 7am and the Ice Castles were sold out. Darn the luck and darn us for wanting to try something new! So, we improvised and headed to Idaho Springs for some beer and delicious food at Tommy Knocker Brewery. The Maple Nut Brown and Drift Blonde Ale are not to be missed. Stephanie and Andrea hit a home run with their Jalepeno Popper Burger. It is a must order when visiting Tommy Knocker! After lunch, beers, basketball watching, and shopping we headed back to Georgetown and visited our beloved Guanella Pass Brewery and Lucha Cantina.
On Sunday, the snow boarders headed to Loveland for an Epic Day Bruh of snowboarding, PBRs, and good times. Leslie and Andrea (who retired from snow boarding last year) had their own epic day planned. They booked a yoga class in Georgetown and were excited to zen out for the day. Turns out that Georgetown, CO doesn’t have yoga but Georgetown, Washington DC does! They decided DC was too far of a walk and ended up back at Guanella Pass Brewery instead. They tested their intelligence with trivial pursuit and confirmed they are still not good at trivia. Once we were all back in Georgetown, we headed to Coopers on the Creek for a nice dinner.
We managed to hit the sack early on Sunday as we had a brand new adventure waiting for us on Monday - DOGSLEDDING!!! Unfortunately mother nature had something else in mind - snow, high winds, and whiteout conditions. Leslie got a call that morning and the snow, ice and winds were making it impossible for our tour to go out. Dogsledding canceled. Whomp whomp. Billy decided to brave the cold and headed back to Loveland for another day of boarding. The UA girls decided to head to Breckenridge for some shopping, lunch, vanilla porters, and coconut porters. Turns out I-70 was a skating rink after we passed through the tunnel, and being the responsible group that we are, we stopped 6 miles early for some food and drinks at Highside Brewing in Frisco. Highside was great! We did a tasting and all decided on full pours of the Snow Bunny Belgium Blonde. Good beers, good food, and a cool vibe kept us there for a few hours. There is plenty of space, a fire place, and games that make it a great stop if you are ever in Frisco!
Even though all of our planned new adventures were either canceled or located in Washington DC, we had another epic weekend in Georgetown. I think we can all agree that anytime spent here is better than being at home and working all day! Here are a few more fun pictures of our weekend. We hope everyone is surviving the polar vortex and are looking forward to a great 2019!
