The One With the Gandy Dancer

Weekend #1 of Andrea's birthday started out with mermaids and saddles.  What's that you say....you never would have put these 2 items together for a birthday present let alone a bizzare dream? Well that's what you get when you're a part of The Unfiltered Adventure group! I think the croshayed-mermaid-snuggie-blanket-thing was by far her favorite! I mean just look at her face!

After gifts it was time for pre-dinner drinks and to knock off another location off our passport. We've blogged about Tom's Town before but simply had to go back for their amazing craft cocktails. Between the Tom's Town Dirty Martini (better than District Pour House's), Bellinis and Gandy Dancers everything was right with the world. Speaking of Gandy Dancer Andrea just found the name of her new, gold, mermaid (you knew there would be more) necklace.

After drinks we walked down to Extra Virgin just a few, short blocks away. When we arrived we were blown away by what awaited us at our table!

Nancy Smith had prosecco and extra virgin chips waiting for us when we showed up! Talk about feeling bad ass! Soon after we were seated both Nancy & Michael Smith came over and greeted us and promptly let us know about a food treasure they had next door at Michael Smith (the restaurant).  They had just got in a FERMIN Iberico leg! For those of you that don't know (lame) this is recognized as one of the 4 aces of global gastronomy, along with caviar, foie gras and truffles. So what is it? It's acorn-fed ham that is an authentic treasure from Spain.

We decided to order a plate of this that was served along with bruschetta. It was a salty, delicious experience none of us will forget. The rest of our meal consisted of deviled eggs, a 4 cheese plate, duck tongue tacos, poblano mac & cheese, scallops in a red sauce (it totally works) and the wood fired ribeye. It's a tapa style restaurant people so we *had* to order a lot! Our favorites in order were the ribeye and scallops.

After dinner we walked over to Snow & Co for some artful frozen drinks. We hadn't been there before so we thought we'd try it but we probably won't be back. The drinks were par and the ombiance was eh. The overwhelming favorite was Cloud 9.

Saturday = pool time with white wine. The next day we hustled (every day we're hustling) over to the Daniel's pool in search of a golden tan and shenanigans. Details of this day are confidential but this happened.

Birthday Shananagins

What could possibly be better than celebrating your birthday? How about celebrating three birthdays! Friday night Unfiltered Adventure successfully kidnapped our friend Mariah in order to celebrate her special day. We enjoyed dinner and cocktails at Jax located on the Plaza. The seafood was fantastic!

We endulged on crab legs, shrimp, hush puppies & oysters.  The strawberry lemonade cocktails were a crowd favorite. The hush puppies were insane, I still can't believe how delicious they were.

What a great night out with these ladies.

After dinner Steph loaded her air compressor into my car & we called it a night.  (The air compressor proves to be integral later in the weekend).

Saturdays are best when they begin with brunch. Since Leslie was calling the shots for her birthday she got to select the location. After reading several brunch menus she decided on one of our favorite spots for happy hours, we needed to confirm their brunch offerings are held to the same standard as everything else. We checked out Louie's Wine Dive on 119th Street. They had us at $12 mimosa carafes.

The food was excellent, we will definitely be back. I had the breakfast tacos with skillet potatoes. Considering how many tacos I have consumed in my lifetime I'm considered an expert on this matter. You should go get the breakfast tacos. The owner even gave Leslie a bottle of champagne for her birthday. We will literally be back for everyone's birthday from this day forward.  Seriously though, I'm not kidding.

Next stop...pool party!  Cue Pitbull radio.

Cannonball!

Cannonball!

Leslie sure knows how to have some fun in the sun. Thank goodness for that air compressor!  (I told you the air compressor was intregal, do you see how giant and incredible those rafts are?!?)

Yay!

Yay!

There was still one more birthday to complete this celebration packed weekend. Sullivan turned one year old and invited his fur friends over for a puppy pool party. There were doggie bags, gifts & a lot of furs in the pool!

So much celebrating! Great friends and family made all of the birthday parties special. The birthday trifecta was exhausting but worth every minute!

Cheers,

Unfiltered Birthday #2

It's birthday quarter over here at Unfiltered Adventure. Yes, I know there are 4 of us, but we have birthday quarter, one month off to celebrate another friends birthday and then another birthday. Cheers to lots of celebrating.

Back to birthday #2. We kidnapped the birthday girl, Kristi, for some hand crafted cocktails at Manifesto before a delicious meal at the Rieger.  Kristi's cocktail had fruity pebbles on top, but tasted nothing like the cereal. Andrea's root beer float was the bomb!! Thank you Shatto!!  And you cannot go to Manifesto without trying the Beautiful Red Bell!!

After 2 cocktails at Manifesto, you must eat! Especially if you have the stirred cocktails, ahem, Stephanie. Luckily the Rieger is right upstairs-aka, within stumbling distance! They have an ever changing menu that is very innovative, so we all tried something different.

Who doesn't love a good sweet potato centerpiece?? #usewhatyouhave   Andrea got the special and it was the best. Pea purée made the dish! Clearly we are total foodies. Aka-we love ALL the food!!!

Christopher Elbow chocolates with a candle in a votive/shot glass wins for creativity!! I wonder what she wished for?? More chocolate? Or more wine?? Or was it for more celebrating?? Or all of the above....  Obviously all of the above!!

Saturday was a gorgeous day, so we put on our faded days shades (all the cool kids are wearing them) and headed to drink some wine!

It was Amigoni's one year anniverary party, so we hit the urban winery up for wine tasting and food trucks!! Well, some of us ate...all of us drank!!  The tasting was great and we liked several of the wines. The Sauvignon Blanc was a crowd favorite and perfect for a hot day!! They also have been for those who don't like wine.

We clearly all had a terrible time!!

How can you not smile? There's so much wine!!

You knows it is probably time to head home when drinking out of the bottle leads to....

Time out and lost sunglasses!

You know what cures a wine hangover, rum soaked bread casserole from Chrissy Tiegen's Cravings cookbook. Because as Chrissy says, rum is for breakfast! Thank you Steph for the delicious breakfast...with champs because we are fancy!!

Another great celebration!! Cheers!
