Reunited

As you all know I have been out of commission after undergoing surgery in January. Luckily I'm 92% healed which means I'm ready to party. Last weekend I was finally ready to participate in all of the activities!

Our favorite way to kickoff the weekend is with a Winter Warmer.  We stopped into an oldie but a goodie, Harry's Country Club.  We had intended to make two stops but Harry's happy hour sucked us in. They even gave us a fancy Reserved sign, ahem VIP. After the happy hour we moved onto the Winter Warmers. Harry's featured Jack Handey and Hot Buttered Rum cocktails. The Jack Handey was crafted for those deep thoughts this time of year, the name was clever but the cocktail was lacking in flavor.  Oh well onto the next, The Hot Buttered Rum was really tasty.  Would have hit the spot if it had not been 60 degrees in February.  We are not complaining though!

Saturday we headed to the Madrid Theatre for Brunched, a Boozy Breakfast Event hosted by The Pitch.  We signed up about a month prior to the big day so the anticipation was killing us.  Luckily we paid the extra cash to get VIP tickets, why wouldn't we?

We brunched like we've never brunched before! This brunch heaven showcased our favorite local brunch spots in one place. We even tried several new selections we had not ventured to yet. We feasted on brunch samples galore from area restaurants including Pinstripes, The District Pour House, Blip Roasters, Chez Elle, Morning Day Cafe, Brown & Loe, Schlafly Beer,  Seasons 52 & many more!   Our favorite brunch item was the banana's foster waffle, I believe the group feedback was to "Run, don't walk to the waffles".  In addition to the fantastic food there was also a Bloody Mary Competition!

So much deliciousness

So much deliciousness

According to The Pitch over 3,200 bloody marys were served in about 3 hours.  Impressive.  Bloody Mary's and olives for all...well for Steph at least.   The 3 finalists from left to right: the District served a pineapple jalapeño Bloody Mary that balanced sweet and savory flavors. Trago had the garnishings on point, the goat cheese stuffed tomato was both genius and delicious. Morning Day Cafe nailed the fresh tasting ingredients without tasting like dirt, well done.

The winner goes to The District! We couldn't have agreed more.

Kristi and Leslie headed out to KC Bier Co to spend some quality time with Miss Barley and celebrate the breweries 3rd anniversary.  Who doesn't love a pup friendly bar?  Perfect way to end their Saturday afternoon. Aren't these two the cutest?

Try the medium bodied Dunkel next time you go to KC Bier Co and let us know what you think!

Sunday we went to Pinot's Palette to support Girls on the Run.  Leslie volunteers as a coach for GOTR so we try to help support them any chance we get.  The painting was the most detailed painting I have ever attempted.  Thank goodness for the wine, it really gave me the confidence to create the masterpiece pictured below.  High five.

My first weekend back to adventuring was full of laughs, bloody marys and charity work.  I am still recovering but I am ready to do it again next weekend!

Cheers!

Basement Workouts and Group Massage???

When your friend invites you to their birthday and it includes a workout in someone's basement and a group massage with friends and strangers (with all of your clothes), you say "why not?!?"

IMG_0082.JPG

I'm getting ahead of myself.  Let's back up to Friday, shall we?  We went to happy hour (because-Friday! and to use our Winter Warmer Passport) with several friends.  Andrea is still in recovery and cannot partake in any alcohol, but Billy, Cody, and Krystal were able to join us for some drinks.  We decided to go to District Pour House for the night.  They infuse their libations in house, which makes for some fabulous cocktails.  Fun twists on old fashioneds-for Cody, Krystal and our resident connoisseur Stephanie, pickle infused martini for one of my drinks because I was feeling James Bond like, and so many more.  They pretty much have anything you can think of.  I saw a marshmallow infused vodka...smore's drink anyone??  Kristi and I even shared the mistake drink that we got for free!

Great cocktails and a fun time!!

Now, on to the birthday celebration for our friend Krystal.  You may remember her birthday last year.  It was one of our first posts!  This year she had lots of fun things in store for us again!

Don't worry-we did not leave her alone in the VIP area for long!

We started with a workout with Krystal's trainer, Shannon.  She happens to train in her basement...so safety in numbers. Or so we thought. My burning muscles thought they were being tortured for sure!

No pics of the workout, but I did get this one of my post workout coffee fix. Why is it so fun to take pics of coffee??

All cleaned up, ready to get the party started...and of course we needed sustenance. Lunch at Port Fonda was next on the agenda.  They serve brunch most of the day on Saturdays and brunch = cocktails!!  We had a delicious meal including chicharonnes and chips to go with our guac.  The chicharonnes were light and flavorful...so yummy!!

After lunch some of us headed over to Julep to use our passport again.  I opted for the classic mint julep since that is the namesake of the cute spot.  I hoped that it would come in the cute silver cups that you see watching the Kentucky Derby, but no such luck.  Maybe if I was wearing a hat??  Next time!!  The drink did have a really cool snow-cone shape and that mound of ice really helped as it melted to mellow out the stronger that I expected drink!

Lots of laughing and another round of juleps ensued.  Next think you know, it was time to get another group photo!!  Since it was Krystal's birthday and all.  She only told everyone we saw!  Luckily the guy taking our picture was pretty funny and patient.  Turns out that mint juleps make a group of girls super giggly! .

Time to wrap it up at this stop.  We tried to go get our massage, but they told us to come back in an hour.  What else are a bunch of girls to do?  Go watch basketball!!  Westport (where all of these places are located) has tons of options.  We popped over to Gambals to catch some of the KU vs Kentucky game before our massage.

Cheers!

Cheers!

Prying ourselves away from a good game was tough, but it was time for our massage at this place.  Note that Krystal is the only one that does not appear a little uneasy.  As mentioned earlier, you literally are massaged in a room full of people with all of your clothes on.  I also should add that it is a deep tissue massage.  I'm not sure if I was more sore from the workout or the massage!!!

IMG_0074.JPG

After the massage, we headed back to Krystal's house for games and tons of laughs!!  It was a fun and interesting day to say the least!  I can't wait to see what she will come up with for her next birthday!!!

Until next week friends!  Cheers!

Blogiversary

Wente Vinyards , a light but flavorful pinot noir

Wente Vinyards, a light but flavorful pinot noir

Anniversaries are special days which benchmark life events. One very important anniversary recently celebrated was the creation of this delightful blog you are currently reading. Can you believe this magic has been happpening for an entire year? We couldn't either so we decided to celebrate where it all began, Louie's Wine Dive. As we sat together toasting our wine to another amazing year as successful bloggers we began to talk about the things we have all learned after one year of blogging.  Sit back and enjoy Deep Thoughts with Unfiltered Adventure.

IMG_0104.JPG

Stephanie concluded blogging is harder than she ever thought. She basically quoted Spider Man, "with great power comes great responsibility".  Preach Steph.

Leslie has experience blogging in the past but she believes it is much easier to blog with a group than it was to keep up with it alone. There is strength in numbers, plus it's more fun.  Checkout her previous blog for old times sake: Life begins at 30

Kristi admitted it is harder than expected to make what you're doing come to life. She wants to put more thought and time into her posts to help convey the incredible real life story behind each adventure.  Sounds like she's ready to take it to the next level! I sure hope I can keep up.

Finally, I found my first year as a blogger to be fun as it presented the opportunity to try new things & share different experiences. All of this sharing is demanding but it's worth it when I come through with a clever blog post. I learned how to create hyperlinks (yes I did just hyperlink the word hyperlink) and perhaps most importantly I learned not everyone picks up on Mariah's World references.

This past year has definitely proved to be both challenging and rewarding. We are all looking forward to 2017 as we have many new adventures just begging to be featured in our blog. Who are we to deny you our readers of what you want!

In conclusion, I would like to leave you with a photo featuring 3/4 of Unfiltered Adventure freezing at the Chiefs playoff game against the Steelers. In the very end our team did not persevere but look how much fun they had! That's a W by my standards.
