Cultivating New Adventures!

Hi all! Happy Friday! I hope everyone is enjoying lots of fun adventures this weekend. Last weekend my (Leslie) friend Robyn came to visit from Texas. She is a reader, so naturally she was very excited to be part of our Unfiltered Adventures!

We kicked last Friday off with a workout at Orange Theory. If you haven't heard of it, it is a heart rate monitored workout with a mix of running on a treadmill, rowing, and some strength. You can see your heart rate on a monitor at all times and the goal is to spend a certain amount of time in the "orange zone" and "red zone".  Overall it was a great workout!  I was definitely sweating throughout the whole thing!!

What better way to cool off after a workout than to jump in the pool?!? I can't think of anything!  So naturally we head to Andrea and Billy's house for some Friday fun.  Most of us took the day off to enjoy the pool and others met up after working for the day.  Fun in the sun is the perfect way to cool off and enjoy a week day!

Hi Robyn!! Doesn't she look great modeling the white wine in the daytime tank on Black Swan 2.0? Black Swan #1 created deflate gate, by instantly deflating the first raft outing.  Luckily the manufacturer quickly replaced her.

Naturally we had salad for lunch because we are so healthy...or we didn't want to cook. Either way, it was so good and perfect for lunch. Since you must wait 5 minutes (that's the rule right?) after eating before getting back in the pool, Andrea decided to water her plants. Is it still considered adulting if you wear a shark mask?!? No really, is it?

It was roughly 1 million degrees last weekend so staying out of the water was not happening! Raft running is the newest way to get back in! It's harder than it looks!! Btw-if you don't follow all of us on Instagram, you should. Kristi posted a hilarious video of me face planting while trying to stand up on Pinkie! Check out our contact page to follow. #shamelessplug

Robyn had one request for her visit and it was Rose'. Who am I to argue when she requests the drink of the summer? Louie's for the second time in 1 week is not excessive. It's called being a "regular"!

image.jpg

The food was amazing, but they only brought out Robyn's chicken and no sides at first. They came out quickly and wouldn't have been a big deal, but this is the second place to forget half of Robyn's food. Why doesn't KC want her to get to eat?!?  Once her food did arrive at Louie's it was amazing and we all were very pleased!!

Saturday was another 1 million degree day, but we headed to the Chipotle Cultivate Festival anyway. Cold beers (as long as you drank them fast) and strong fans helped cool us off as we got some great tips and tricks from Andy Zimmern and Carla Hall.

Carla Hall is a personal favorite of mine from Top Chef. Her bubbly personality and quirkiness make her so much fun to watch!

We decided we had enough sweating while standing around, so we grabbed our Chipotle burrito and Pizzaria Locale coupons and headed for air conditioning.

Il Lazzarone happens to be on the Passport Program and has air conditioning, so we popped in for a delicious charcuterie board and some drinks. Unfortunately the charcuterie board was way better than the pizza and we left a little disappointed.

Next stop was Harry's Country Club to say happy birthday to our friend Klarisa. Moscow Mules were on special and were soooo great! I love a good Moscow Mule! Thanks Cody for modeling! Kristi and Steph headed with a group to try Breakout KC.  They did not manage to breakout, but they did have a fun time trying!  Plus, they got to try the new Street Car system.

Fun fact: we came here once before a concert and met The Harry of Harry's Country Club. Really nice guy!

Until next time...cheers!

Birthday Shananagins

What could possibly be better than celebrating your birthday? How about celebrating three birthdays! Friday night Unfiltered Adventure successfully kidnapped our friend Mariah in order to celebrate her special day. We enjoyed dinner and cocktails at Jax located on the Plaza. The seafood was fantastic!

We endulged on crab legs, shrimp, hush puppies & oysters.  The strawberry lemonade cocktails were a crowd favorite. The hush puppies were insane, I still can't believe how delicious they were.

What a great night out with these ladies.

After dinner Steph loaded her air compressor into my car & we called it a night.  (The air compressor proves to be integral later in the weekend).

Saturdays are best when they begin with brunch. Since Leslie was calling the shots for her birthday she got to select the location. After reading several brunch menus she decided on one of our favorite spots for happy hours, we needed to confirm their brunch offerings are held to the same standard as everything else. We checked out Louie's Wine Dive on 119th Street. They had us at $12 mimosa carafes.

The food was excellent, we will definitely be back. I had the breakfast tacos with skillet potatoes. Considering how many tacos I have consumed in my lifetime I'm considered an expert on this matter. You should go get the breakfast tacos. The owner even gave Leslie a bottle of champagne for her birthday. We will literally be back for everyone's birthday from this day forward.  Seriously though, I'm not kidding.

Next stop...pool party!  Cue Pitbull radio.

Cannonball!

Cannonball!

Leslie sure knows how to have some fun in the sun. Thank goodness for that air compressor!  (I told you the air compressor was intregal, do you see how giant and incredible those rafts are?!?)

Yay!

Yay!

There was still one more birthday to complete this celebration packed weekend. Sullivan turned one year old and invited his fur friends over for a puppy pool party. There were doggie bags, gifts & a lot of furs in the pool!

So much celebrating! Great friends and family made all of the birthday parties special. The birthday trifecta was exhausting but worth every minute!

Our first meeting...

It's official...this blog is a go!  We had our first meeting at Louie's Wine Dive in Kansas City. Louie's was amazing and we got so much done.  Please check out Meet the Adventurers section to read all about us!!

Let's talk about Louie's...

Stephanie and I (Leslie) arrived early because we got off work a little early for the long weekend.  We started with a decent Malbec called ELSA BIANCHI (only $26 for the bottle).  It is an Argentinian malbec that was light and a great start to the evening.

Andrea arrived and we switched to a different malbec and ordered some deviled eggs.  Stephanie's review of the BLT Deviled Eggs: The deviled eggs were a delight.  Not too sweet or vinegary.  The bacon was crisp and the arugula was a nice subtle touch.  Definitely a dish that would be a crowd pleaser!

image.jpg

Kristi missed out on the deviled eggs, but arrived just in time to try the second malbec.  This malbec tasted more like what I think when I think about malbecs.  Leo Premium ($44 for a bottle) was a perfect blend of spiciness that I expect mixed with intense fruitiness.  I did a little research on this wine and one of the wine makers, Leo Messi created the Messi foundation.  The Messi foundation helps children with social disadvantages to improve their quality in life through education, medical assistance and sports. Donations from each wine sale goes to their foundation.  This made me even happier that we drank a bottle (or two of this).

What pairs better with wine than a cheese board?  A soft cheese, a guiness cheddar, and a mild cheddar arrived with 2 cured meats, strawberries reduced with balsamic, pickled onion and fennel, pickles, spicy mustard, and some breads.  Perfect pairing for our last bottle which was a personal favorite-Pinot Noir.  Terra Pura Pinot Noir (also only $26 for the bottle) was a nice cap to the evening and went very well with the mild soft cheese.

Overall, it was a perfect happy hour and great start to our Unfiltered Adventures.  We have so many great things planned that we can't wait to share with you!!
