The great debate: #sayyestopumpkinbeer or #saynotopumpkinbeer

When you think of fall what's the first thing that comes to mind? Everything pumpkin! Friday night was all about pumpkin decorating, pumpkin beer tastings and breaking in the new fire pit.

Fall Friday!

Fall Friday!

Being the adventurers we are Kristi and I couldn't pass up some free firewood on the way to the Daniels' new fire pit! That's a LOT of wood! You're welcome Billy.  Once we got into the decorating spirit (in rounds of course - we get thirsty) it was time to #sayyestopumpkinbeers.

10 pumpkin beers....which would come out on top??

After many tastings we had each found our favorites!  Andrea, Leslie and myself all loved the O'Fallon Pumpkin Cream Stout. Tasting comments included: It tastes like a pumpkin spice latte and I actually like it!  As for Kristi the O'Fallon Apple Cinnamon Pumpkin Beer charmed her. Tasting comments included: Smells amazing and oh my, it's like a warm apple pie - all I need is a scoop of vanilla ice cream!

As for the boys, hopefully more will join our group soon 😏, Bobby *literally* hated all the beers. However he found solace with the O'Fallon Vanilla Pumpkin Beer. He said it tastes like the whip cream you put on a pumpkin pie and he wasn't wrong! Billy went a completely different route and honed in on the Unita Punk-N Pumpkin Ale. He described it as "me likey". Very informative! Some tasting comments that didn't make the favorite category were: smells like dog, oh holy hell it's peachy and this should be hot and drank in a parking lot. Feel free to reach out to get the names of these losers before you waste your time and money on them.

Boys and their beers

Once Saturday rolled around it was time to be charitable and #saynotopumpkinbeer so we ventured over to Grinders Stonewall for: Smashing Pumpkins - A celebration of 90's music and not drinking pumpkin beers for KC Pet project. For a $10 donation we got a pint, glass to keep and a pumpkin to SMASH! Let's set the screen shall we...

We sat on the patio to enjoy the beautiful fall day and to watch everyone else's smashing techniques. It was glorious!! We were able to drag Mariah out with us for a chance at pumpkin domination and being overall awesome on a Saturday afternoon. All the while Andrea was at home "working" on a flagstone path so we could enjoy the fire pit in style next time around. No more lame grass to tickle our feet as we roast countless mellows. Anyway, our strategy was simple; drink a couple beers, grab that mighty mallet and go Gallagher on that smug orange piece of fruit!

If you've never smashed a pumpkin you're missing out and are probably lame. Get out there America and think before you carve!

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday! Let's get ready to YOOOOGAA! I haven't done yoga in years but when Leslie said hey Boulevard is putting on an event in their new tasting hall/visitors center and it's paired with beer and pastries my eyes lit up like a little kid.  We all arrived promptly at mimosa time (9:15) and watched 56 other yoga enthusiasts find their spots on the second floor around the stairwell. The doors were open wide and the fresh air was wafting in like an old friend saying good morning. With the view of downtown in site it was time to wait for beer, ahem, do yoga.

Excited to start the yoga!

After an hour of deep breathing, stretching and getting our zen on with Yoga Buzz it was time for act 2 of our morning. Yay, delicious treats!  Heirloom Bakery is a from-scratch bakery that uses local and seasonal ingredients. They are located at 63rd and Oak in KCMO. They made us glazed cranberry orange scones, a homemade pop-tart and a chocolate hazelnut & sea salt spread on homemade bread. Oh. My. God. Run don't walk to this bakery!!! In order of said pastries above our beer pairings were Boulevard Wheat, Tank 7 and Milk Stout. Just look how cute it was.

Yoga makes us hungry for "real" food so Andrea hooked us up. Side note Boulevard doesn't allow tipping, they just want you to enjoy their beers.

You are awarded a photo booth token when you start a tab so naturally we did 4 rounds in the camper.

What a weekend! Just wait for what we have in store next weekend! !!

Cultivating New Adventures!

Hi all! Happy Friday! I hope everyone is enjoying lots of fun adventures this weekend. Last weekend my (Leslie) friend Robyn came to visit from Texas. She is a reader, so naturally she was very excited to be part of our Unfiltered Adventures!

We kicked last Friday off with a workout at Orange Theory. If you haven't heard of it, it is a heart rate monitored workout with a mix of running on a treadmill, rowing, and some strength. You can see your heart rate on a monitor at all times and the goal is to spend a certain amount of time in the "orange zone" and "red zone".  Overall it was a great workout!  I was definitely sweating throughout the whole thing!!

What better way to cool off after a workout than to jump in the pool?!? I can't think of anything!  So naturally we head to Andrea and Billy's house for some Friday fun.  Most of us took the day off to enjoy the pool and others met up after working for the day.  Fun in the sun is the perfect way to cool off and enjoy a week day!

Hi Robyn!! Doesn't she look great modeling the white wine in the daytime tank on Black Swan 2.0? Black Swan #1 created deflate gate, by instantly deflating the first raft outing.  Luckily the manufacturer quickly replaced her.

Naturally we had salad for lunch because we are so healthy...or we didn't want to cook. Either way, it was so good and perfect for lunch. Since you must wait 5 minutes (that's the rule right?) after eating before getting back in the pool, Andrea decided to water her plants. Is it still considered adulting if you wear a shark mask?!? No really, is it?

It was roughly 1 million degrees last weekend so staying out of the water was not happening! Raft running is the newest way to get back in! It's harder than it looks!! Btw-if you don't follow all of us on Instagram, you should. Kristi posted a hilarious video of me face planting while trying to stand up on Pinkie! Check out our contact page to follow. #shamelessplug

Robyn had one request for her visit and it was Rose'. Who am I to argue when she requests the drink of the summer? Louie's for the second time in 1 week is not excessive. It's called being a "regular"!

image.jpg

The food was amazing, but they only brought out Robyn's chicken and no sides at first. They came out quickly and wouldn't have been a big deal, but this is the second place to forget half of Robyn's food. Why doesn't KC want her to get to eat?!?  Once her food did arrive at Louie's it was amazing and we all were very pleased!!

Saturday was another 1 million degree day, but we headed to the Chipotle Cultivate Festival anyway. Cold beers (as long as you drank them fast) and strong fans helped cool us off as we got some great tips and tricks from Andy Zimmern and Carla Hall.

Carla Hall is a personal favorite of mine from Top Chef. Her bubbly personality and quirkiness make her so much fun to watch!

We decided we had enough sweating while standing around, so we grabbed our Chipotle burrito and Pizzaria Locale coupons and headed for air conditioning.

Il Lazzarone happens to be on the Passport Program and has air conditioning, so we popped in for a delicious charcuterie board and some drinks. Unfortunately the charcuterie board was way better than the pizza and we left a little disappointed.

Next stop was Harry's Country Club to say happy birthday to our friend Klarisa. Moscow Mules were on special and were soooo great! I love a good Moscow Mule! Thanks Cody for modeling! Kristi and Steph headed with a group to try Breakout KC.  They did not manage to breakout, but they did have a fun time trying!  Plus, they got to try the new Street Car system.

Fun fact: we came here once before a concert and met The Harry of Harry's Country Club. Really nice guy!

Until next time...cheers!
