Cultivating New Adventures!

Hi all! Happy Friday! I hope everyone is enjoying lots of fun adventures this weekend. Last weekend my (Leslie) friend Robyn came to visit from Texas. She is a reader, so naturally she was very excited to be part of our Unfiltered Adventures!

We kicked last Friday off with a workout at Orange Theory. If you haven't heard of it, it is a heart rate monitored workout with a mix of running on a treadmill, rowing, and some strength. You can see your heart rate on a monitor at all times and the goal is to spend a certain amount of time in the "orange zone" and "red zone".  Overall it was a great workout!  I was definitely sweating throughout the whole thing!!

What better way to cool off after a workout than to jump in the pool?!? I can't think of anything!  So naturally we head to Andrea and Billy's house for some Friday fun.  Most of us took the day off to enjoy the pool and others met up after working for the day.  Fun in the sun is the perfect way to cool off and enjoy a week day!

Hi Robyn!! Doesn't she look great modeling the white wine in the daytime tank on Black Swan 2.0? Black Swan #1 created deflate gate, by instantly deflating the first raft outing.  Luckily the manufacturer quickly replaced her.

Naturally we had salad for lunch because we are so healthy...or we didn't want to cook. Either way, it was so good and perfect for lunch. Since you must wait 5 minutes (that's the rule right?) after eating before getting back in the pool, Andrea decided to water her plants. Is it still considered adulting if you wear a shark mask?!? No really, is it?

It was roughly 1 million degrees last weekend so staying out of the water was not happening! Raft running is the newest way to get back in! It's harder than it looks!! Btw-if you don't follow all of us on Instagram, you should. Kristi posted a hilarious video of me face planting while trying to stand up on Pinkie! Check out our contact page to follow. #shamelessplug

Robyn had one request for her visit and it was Rose'. Who am I to argue when she requests the drink of the summer? Louie's for the second time in 1 week is not excessive. It's called being a "regular"!

image.jpg

The food was amazing, but they only brought out Robyn's chicken and no sides at first. They came out quickly and wouldn't have been a big deal, but this is the second place to forget half of Robyn's food. Why doesn't KC want her to get to eat?!?  Once her food did arrive at Louie's it was amazing and we all were very pleased!!

Saturday was another 1 million degree day, but we headed to the Chipotle Cultivate Festival anyway. Cold beers (as long as you drank them fast) and strong fans helped cool us off as we got some great tips and tricks from Andy Zimmern and Carla Hall.

Carla Hall is a personal favorite of mine from Top Chef. Her bubbly personality and quirkiness make her so much fun to watch!

We decided we had enough sweating while standing around, so we grabbed our Chipotle burrito and Pizzaria Locale coupons and headed for air conditioning.

Il Lazzarone happens to be on the Passport Program and has air conditioning, so we popped in for a delicious charcuterie board and some drinks. Unfortunately the charcuterie board was way better than the pizza and we left a little disappointed.

Next stop was Harry's Country Club to say happy birthday to our friend Klarisa. Moscow Mules were on special and were soooo great! I love a good Moscow Mule! Thanks Cody for modeling! Kristi and Steph headed with a group to try Breakout KC.  They did not manage to breakout, but they did have a fun time trying!  Plus, they got to try the new Street Car system.

Fun fact: we came here once before a concert and met The Harry of Harry's Country Club. Really nice guy!

Until next time...cheers!

Missing one...

We spent last week missing one...man down! Andrea had a work trip to San Fran last week, so the other 3 of us adventured on.

1000 degree heat has never stopped us from a good time. We headed out to the K to cheer on the Royals to victory. Once the sun went down, in spectacular fashion, the temp was perfect!

Bust out your brooms for a Royals sweep! Sorry, not sorry Indians!

Meanwhile in San Fran...Andrea was having a terrible time taking in the sights and getting VIP treatment! I mean-wine and laughs with coworkers....who likes that? ;)

Saturday brought Boulevardia-a music and beer festival. We arrived to find lines on lines...to get in, to get special bracelet for taps and taste (more on this in a sec), to get id'd, for beer tokens, to get beer, and to get into Taps and Taste.  But it was all worth the wait when we saw the rows of beer and food tents.

image.jpg

We arrived a little prior to the Taps & Tastes started, so we grabbed a beer. Steph and I tried the new Boulevard Weisse without having any idea what it was. Turns out, it's a sour beer and quite a shock!!

Ready for something else to cleanse our palate, we headed into the special area for the event.

Good thing our friend Andrea stepped in so Billy didn't feel so sad!

image.jpg

We tried lots of beers, but not many tastes. A lot of the food was gone by the time we got to those tents. Note to self....next time start with the tastes!!

We couldn't hear the bands, but there was a great dj spinning real records. There were also these cool guys on stilts.

Then there was the aftermath of all the beers!!

10 people in 1 car...is this a clown car?? Clearly photos were in order!

Until next time! Cheers!!

Kansas City - Boulevards a Plenty

Outside the Boulevard Brewery

Outside the Boulevard Brewery

It was a gorgeous Saturday afternoon so why not check out some local favorites. First up was the Boulevard Brewery. Tours were full so we decided to head straight to the tasting room and get right to the good stuff! We opted to each get a flight, naturally, for maximum tastings. Here are our tasting notes that we remembered to actually write down: Irish Ale - Not overly dark tasting (that's what she said), smooth & easy drinking. Black Pale Ale - Very hoppy compared to the Irish Ale. Tale Tart - Very tart, like I would never buy this (Steph). Kristi said it's not as bad as the rest of us made it out to be but I think that was just the booze talking. Chocolate with Raspberry - We always anticipate the release of the Chocolate beer every year around Valentine's Day but this year's included raspberry so we were skeptical. It was more like a raspberry beer with a hint of chocolate than the other way around. We were not fans and it would be tough to drink a full glass of this raspberry imposter to what is normally a delicious chocolate beverage. Boulevard please ditch the berries for next year!

Boulevard Tavern

Boulevard Tavern

After a "few" drinks at Boulevard we decided to try Boulevard Tavern to continue with the theme. This place is relatively new and is in the old Nica's 320 space. It's an American Gastropub with an uncomplicated menu. We started with the KFC and these twice-fried chicken wings blew us away!

The KFC was AMAZE-WING!!

For our lunch picks we tried the beef on weck, daily grind burger, grilled chicken shawarma and the fish tacos.

All dishes were decent but anything would have been downhill after those wings. All in all we'd go back here and try brunch or dinner instead.  The wine and Manhattan were great!  Until next time.

Part 3 of our Saturday afternoon adventure took us to Up-Down KC. This place is within walking distance from Boulevard Tavern so a bonus there! We've been here before but the sunny patio called our names so we had to return. Up-Down is an adult arcade with classic games that we played as kids as well as a full bar.  Of course they have an awesome 4 person Ms Pac Man game so we had to sit down for a few rounds.

It was a quick stop but definitely one I'm glad we did. Sometimes an impromptu decision can change the course of your day or even your life. Today it simply changed the alcohol content of our bodies....when in Kansas City.  Cheers!
