I Didn’t Get My Baked Potato

Last week we headed out to infamous Georgetown, Colorado. You are familiar with our happy place from previous posts.. We left Overland Park around 5:30 pm Wednesday evening. Billy was so amped to get there he drove all the way through! We arrived at the condo around 3:30 am Mountain time. Once we unloaded the Suburban we toasted to our favorite skiier and the custom flasks Steph had made for us.

Welcome to paradise, have an epic day bruh

This year we hit the slopes at Copper Mountain.  Copper is one of Billy's favorite spots, we figured why not let Steph redeem herself from a few years ago when she was failing and only made one run down the mountain.  It was pre-blog but let's say Steph had to dig a hole in the snow on the side of the mountain...just use your imagination to fill in the dots.

Georgetown favorite Guanella Pass Brewery , you must check this place out!  Brian joined us all the way from Colorado Springs and modeled Leslie's fancy fur hat.  Leslie was only marginally impressed :-)

So much shredding, snowboarders and tubers alike.

We had to stop into Alpine Bar and Grill where we ordered plenty of Alpine Coffees for everyone!  Best coffee ever.  Unfortunately, I forgot the gift certificate we won last September when betting on the 2nd Annual Gold Rush Duck Races, guess we will have to go back to put it to use.

Obviously we observed National Wine Day.  We decided to go for our favorite Meiomi Pinot Noir and try something recommended by our excellent server at Coopers on the Creek .   Joseph Drouhin Pinot Noir was the closest comparable Pinot Noir to the Meiomi. According to the Joseph Drouhin website,  Pinot Noir is one of the most difficult yet rewarding grapes to grow, it is commonly referred to by winemakers as the “heartbreak grape.” This wine was light, jammy and quite delicious; however, it fell short to our beloved Meiomi.  Looks like Meiomi is the true heartbreaker.

We had to make our way to Breckenridge Brewery & Pub for the awesome soy glazed edamame  and a round of Vanilla Porters.  The Vanilla Porters really taste better there.  Honestly they also taste delicious when you purchase them at Lukas Liquor. After edamame and Vanilla Porters there is always time for Human Jenga!

Cody joined us for his first snowboarding experience.  He was pretty good, he made Leslie and I look like we were not professionals.  Super rude of him.

Rounding out a day on the mountain at Mother's Saloon is a fantastic idea!  We recommend Mother's to anyone visiting Georgetown.  Show up with your coin purse full of quarters, you will own that pool table and juke box.  From Steph the pool hustler to Greg the Buffalo and Leslie riding a random Ram,  Mother's never disappoints!

When Unfiltered Adventure gets together there is never a dull moment.  Amongst all the laughs and good times it is certainly nice to stop and enjoy some new scenery.  We love these mountains.

It is clear we had too much fun and did a lot of celebrating but the peak of this trip to Georgetown  was sitting at Guanella Pass Brewery when Steph walked through the door with a look of relief and pure happiness on her face after taking a call from the vet who had been trusted with Big Brown's care.  We all cried a little, cheered emphatically and shared a toast in Badger's honor.  He truly is an OG.

Until next time Georgetown, we will be back for that baked potato.

We still did not escape!

Happy Friday Friends!  Who's ready for the weekend?  I love the new Boulevard pints...I mean, who doesn't Thank Boulevard It's Friday??  We tried several new spots last week and attempted to solve a mystery to escape a room again.

IMG_0159.JPG

Andrea and I (and the rest of the fam) tried to figure out the casino mystery to get out of the room at Breakout KC.  We started off strong with Andrea nailing the first clue and then went downhill fast!  I don't want to spoil the game, but I must admit that I was absolutely useless!  I don't think I figured anything out!!!  The game master did tell us we were really close to being done...only like 20 more steps to figure it out!  You may remember another failed attempt last year...apparently these are not our forte!

Things we are good at-happy hour!  Kristi, Steph, and I met Steph's sister Mariah at Stagecoach Tavern.  It doesn't look like much from the outside because it is in a strip mall, but the inside is really cute.  And they had a great Horchata Stout and it was a crowd favorite.  Not too sweet with great hints of cinnamon.

We also caught up with our good friend Holi over dinner at Plate.  After reading the reviews, how could we not check this place out? "plate. is so modern and stylish that you'd never guess it's housed in a 100-year-old building. Owners Christian and Andrea Joseph rewired, repaired or rebuilt almost everything in the space to make it sexy enough for date night, casual enough for family dinner and convenient enough for happy hour." - FEAST Magazine

Kristi arrived first and got the scoop.  The dining room is TINY right now, but they are expanding into the space next door soon.  Upstairs is a small, but elegant space with a cool modern vibe and the basement is a beautiful European inspired wine cellar (group pic above).  Apparently they do events once a month-alternating food event and drink event.  The restaurant also does thirsty Thursday and offers half price bottles of wine.  We missed it by one day!!  I have a feeling we will be back!!  Since we were venturing out to a new place, we decided to try a new to us wine.  Nebbiolo is a full bodied red that was great while we waited for everyone to arrive and paired well with all of the food!

The concept is really cool.  All of the plates are very small so you can order several courses and share with friends or a date.  We had sprouts with pulled pork and it was fantastic!  The mix of flavors was so unique and delicious.  Crispy brussel sprouts, radish, rosemary fried cashews, soy honey, candied lime, pulled pork shoulder.  We also had the arancini-fried risotto-twist my arm!

For the second course most of us tried the papparadelle with white bolognese.  Kristi ventured out and went for the tortellini-red pepper pasta, milk braised beef short rib, caramelized shallot, pan sauce, pistachios, smoked prosciutto, parmesan.  Again-these are super small portions so that you can try lots of things.  You definitely wouldn't order only a pasta (unless you want to leave hungry).  It was perfect for our group of girls...men would definitely need their own courses!

The osso bucco had the best reviews and was highly recommended by our awesome waiter.  It came with pureed truffle butter beans that paired so well with the espresso braised pork!  We surprised ourselves and went for the chicken as our other main course.  Bone in, crispy skin, and perfectly cooked!  It came with pickled peppers, squash risotto (so good), pear, fried broccolini, pancetta, lemon brown butter.  I never order chicken when I go to a restaurant, but this is something I would get again!

In case you were worried that we are falling down on checking off spots on the Winter Warmer passport, fear not!  Plate. is on it, so we got another stamp!

We hope everyone has a very merry unfiltered week!

Basement Workouts and Group Massage???

When your friend invites you to their birthday and it includes a workout in someone's basement and a group massage with friends and strangers (with all of your clothes), you say "why not?!?"

IMG_0082.JPG

I'm getting ahead of myself.  Let's back up to Friday, shall we?  We went to happy hour (because-Friday! and to use our Winter Warmer Passport) with several friends.  Andrea is still in recovery and cannot partake in any alcohol, but Billy, Cody, and Krystal were able to join us for some drinks.  We decided to go to District Pour House for the night.  They infuse their libations in house, which makes for some fabulous cocktails.  Fun twists on old fashioneds-for Cody, Krystal and our resident connoisseur Stephanie, pickle infused martini for one of my drinks because I was feeling James Bond like, and so many more.  They pretty much have anything you can think of.  I saw a marshmallow infused vodka...smore's drink anyone??  Kristi and I even shared the mistake drink that we got for free!

Great cocktails and a fun time!!

Now, on to the birthday celebration for our friend Krystal.  You may remember her birthday last year.  It was one of our first posts!  This year she had lots of fun things in store for us again!

Don't worry-we did not leave her alone in the VIP area for long!

We started with a workout with Krystal's trainer, Shannon.  She happens to train in her basement...so safety in numbers. Or so we thought. My burning muscles thought they were being tortured for sure!

No pics of the workout, but I did get this one of my post workout coffee fix. Why is it so fun to take pics of coffee??

IMG_0072.JPG

All cleaned up, ready to get the party started...and of course we needed sustenance. Lunch at Port Fonda was next on the agenda.  They serve brunch most of the day on Saturdays and brunch = cocktails!!  We had a delicious meal including chicharonnes and chips to go with our guac.  The chicharonnes were light and flavorful...so yummy!!

IMG_0063.JPG

After lunch some of us headed over to Julep to use our passport again.  I opted for the classic mint julep since that is the namesake of the cute spot.  I hoped that it would come in the cute silver cups that you see watching the Kentucky Derby, but no such luck.  Maybe if I was wearing a hat??  Next time!!  The drink did have a really cool snow-cone shape and that mound of ice really helped as it melted to mellow out the stronger that I expected drink!

Lots of laughing and another round of juleps ensued.  Next think you know, it was time to get another group photo!!  Since it was Krystal's birthday and all.  She only told everyone we saw!  Luckily the guy taking our picture was pretty funny and patient.  Turns out that mint juleps make a group of girls super giggly! .

Time to wrap it up at this stop.  We tried to go get our massage, but they told us to come back in an hour.  What else are a bunch of girls to do?  Go watch basketball!!  Westport (where all of these places are located) has tons of options.  We popped over to Gambals to catch some of the KU vs Kentucky game before our massage.

Cheers!

Cheers!

Prying ourselves away from a good game was tough, but it was time for our massage at this place.  Note that Krystal is the only one that does not appear a little uneasy.  As mentioned earlier, you literally are massaged in a room full of people with all of your clothes on.  I also should add that it is a deep tissue massage.  I'm not sure if I was more sore from the workout or the massage!!!

IMG_0074.JPG

After the massage, we headed back to Krystal's house for games and tons of laughs!!  It was a fun and interesting day to say the least!  I can't wait to see what she will come up with for her next birthday!!!

Until next week friends!  Cheers!
