Cultivating New Adventures!

Hi all! Happy Friday! I hope everyone is enjoying lots of fun adventures this weekend. Last weekend my (Leslie) friend Robyn came to visit from Texas. She is a reader, so naturally she was very excited to be part of our Unfiltered Adventures!

We kicked last Friday off with a workout at Orange Theory. If you haven't heard of it, it is a heart rate monitored workout with a mix of running on a treadmill, rowing, and some strength. You can see your heart rate on a monitor at all times and the goal is to spend a certain amount of time in the "orange zone" and "red zone".  Overall it was a great workout!  I was definitely sweating throughout the whole thing!!

What better way to cool off after a workout than to jump in the pool?!? I can't think of anything!  So naturally we head to Andrea and Billy's house for some Friday fun.  Most of us took the day off to enjoy the pool and others met up after working for the day.  Fun in the sun is the perfect way to cool off and enjoy a week day!

Hi Robyn!! Doesn't she look great modeling the white wine in the daytime tank on Black Swan 2.0? Black Swan #1 created deflate gate, by instantly deflating the first raft outing.  Luckily the manufacturer quickly replaced her.

Naturally we had salad for lunch because we are so healthy...or we didn't want to cook. Either way, it was so good and perfect for lunch. Since you must wait 5 minutes (that's the rule right?) after eating before getting back in the pool, Andrea decided to water her plants. Is it still considered adulting if you wear a shark mask?!? No really, is it?

It was roughly 1 million degrees last weekend so staying out of the water was not happening! Raft running is the newest way to get back in! It's harder than it looks!! Btw-if you don't follow all of us on Instagram, you should. Kristi posted a hilarious video of me face planting while trying to stand up on Pinkie! Check out our contact page to follow. #shamelessplug

Robyn had one request for her visit and it was Rose'. Who am I to argue when she requests the drink of the summer? Louie's for the second time in 1 week is not excessive. It's called being a "regular"!

image.jpg

The food was amazing, but they only brought out Robyn's chicken and no sides at first. They came out quickly and wouldn't have been a big deal, but this is the second place to forget half of Robyn's food. Why doesn't KC want her to get to eat?!?  Once her food did arrive at Louie's it was amazing and we all were very pleased!!

Saturday was another 1 million degree day, but we headed to the Chipotle Cultivate Festival anyway. Cold beers (as long as you drank them fast) and strong fans helped cool us off as we got some great tips and tricks from Andy Zimmern and Carla Hall.

Carla Hall is a personal favorite of mine from Top Chef. Her bubbly personality and quirkiness make her so much fun to watch!

We decided we had enough sweating while standing around, so we grabbed our Chipotle burrito and Pizzaria Locale coupons and headed for air conditioning.

Il Lazzarone happens to be on the Passport Program and has air conditioning, so we popped in for a delicious charcuterie board and some drinks. Unfortunately the charcuterie board was way better than the pizza and we left a little disappointed.

Next stop was Harry's Country Club to say happy birthday to our friend Klarisa. Moscow Mules were on special and were soooo great! I love a good Moscow Mule! Thanks Cody for modeling! Kristi and Steph headed with a group to try Breakout KC.  They did not manage to breakout, but they did have a fun time trying!  Plus, they got to try the new Street Car system.

Fun fact: we came here once before a concert and met The Harry of Harry's Country Club. Really nice guy!

Until next time...cheers!

The Unfiltered Adventure crew and Maureen loaded up and left town Thursday after work. We were evading the flash flooding, severe thunderstorms & tornado sightings. We were determined to get to western Kansas! We loaded the Suburban, a box of wine per passenger, and Steph confidently took the wheel. Maureen made herself comfortable in the way way back where she could contribute interesting stories from her past. She recalled a young lady who was quite nice but, "she never could get by on her looks." Ouch.

Two hours into the drive, what the hail! Steph kept her cool, thanks to her we all lived to see The Holiday Inn Express in Hays, Kansas.

While enjoying our complimentary hot breakfast at The Holiday Inn Express we learned of the F4 Wedge tornado that barely missed us. According to AccuWeather a Wedge tornado is a tornado that is at least as wide as it is tall. Here's a scary picture we found on the Internet of a wedge tornado.

Now here's a happy picture of the Pancake Maker at breakfast.

Once we filled our tummies and the gas tank we were back on the road. Next stop Georgetown, Colorado!

We rolled into Georgetown Friday and popped into the visitor center. The Georgetown Visitor center is the best spot to get current information regarding hikes in the area and try on really cool hats.

While at the visitor center we learned the majority of the hikes are deemed unsafe due to the snow, so we stopped in the middle of town and climbed a rock just to prove them all wrong.

All of that exploring sure made us hungry, now to our favorite restaurant in Georgetown, Lucha Cantina at the Ram. Lovingly referred to as The Ram.  We highly recommend the guacamole, salsa and the queso.  We decided to share a few entrees and head to the condo for a relaxing evening of girl talk and wine. Then more snacks.

Saturday will go down in history as the greatest adventure filled day ever experienced in Georgetown, Colorado.  I'm sure you're thinking, "that is a pretty intense statement." Well it was a pretty intense day! The day began as any other at The Happy Cooker for breakfast with wine glasses filled to the rim with sweet, delicious champagne.

Once we finished carb loading we headed through town to prepare for the day of hiking. The plan to hike came to an abrupt halt when the heavens smiled down upon us and we stumbled upon a Burro Race. That is right, Burro Racing.

Burro is the Spanish word for donkey

There was no way we were going to miss this once in a lifetime opportunity so we stuck around to cheer them on at the starting line. Things were delayed 25 minutes when there was a rogue burro, we literally can't make this stuff up. Then we decided to hit up an estate sale and grab a table on a patio to cheer on the finishers. We may have went to the Happy Cooker twice before noon. Have we mentioned we love this place?

Turns out burro races get us very amped up & ready to hit the trails. We headed to Silver Creek Trail for a nice little hike.

It was great to get some fresh air and enjoy the views off the mountainside.

Post hike we were hungry so we went to the Alpine Restaurant and Bar for delicious pizza, bold chianti and live music. The musician appreciated our enthusiasm so much he gave us a complimentary c.d. After dinner we decided to hold a "dinnervention" which basically consists of everyone going around the table and telling each person why they are unique and awesome. We may have all cried but it was a bonding experience to remember! After an emotional "dinnervention" the next stop was the local biker bar of course. Look out Mothers Saloon, Unfiltered Adventure is in the house.

This time there were pups in the bar.

We met the locals and one was even a self proclaimed mountain man who is kind of off the grid. He didn't have an email address or a television so it seems legit. At 1:30 am we closed it down and headed to the condo.

Sunday Funday called for a brewery tour. We decided to check out The Dam Brewery in Dillon, CO. We all enjoyed good beers while chatting on the patio. Next stop The Bakers Brewery. It was smaller and a much different atmosphere but we did like our beers. The atmosphere was different but the same fella with a feather cowboy hat happened to show up at both breweries. Again, our lucky day. Of the two breweries we preferred The Dam Brewery.

We headed back to Georgetown to spend our last evening in Colorado dining at The Ram. Still delicious.

We concluded our night at the condo discussing stories from Steph's troubled years. To be fair she lived in Detroit and had to get respect to survive. She started a gang for adolesent girls, so basically a form of community service. As Maureen enjoyed the stories Steph told from her years on the streets, she looked at Steph with the most sincerity and asked, "Did you ever kill anyone?"

Oh Maureen.

Sometimes you go on an ordinary trip that turns into something extraordinary thanks to the company you keep. Well and burros, Mothers Salloon & the locals in a small town loved by all. Thank you for sharing your town with us Maureen.

Unfiltered Birthday #2

It's birthday quarter over here at Unfiltered Adventure. Yes, I know there are 4 of us, but we have birthday quarter, one month off to celebrate another friends birthday and then another birthday. Cheers to lots of celebrating.

Back to birthday #2. We kidnapped the birthday girl, Kristi, for some hand crafted cocktails at Manifesto before a delicious meal at the Rieger.  Kristi's cocktail had fruity pebbles on top, but tasted nothing like the cereal. Andrea's root beer float was the bomb!! Thank you Shatto!!  And you cannot go to Manifesto without trying the Beautiful Red Bell!!

image.jpg

After 2 cocktails at Manifesto, you must eat! Especially if you have the stirred cocktails, ahem, Stephanie. Luckily the Rieger is right upstairs-aka, within stumbling distance! They have an ever changing menu that is very innovative, so we all tried something different.

Who doesn't love a good sweet potato centerpiece?? #usewhatyouhave   Andrea got the special and it was the best. Pea purée made the dish! Clearly we are total foodies. Aka-we love ALL the food!!!

image.jpg

Christopher Elbow chocolates with a candle in a votive/shot glass wins for creativity!! I wonder what she wished for?? More chocolate? Or more wine?? Or was it for more celebrating?? Or all of the above....  Obviously all of the above!!

Saturday was a gorgeous day, so we put on our faded days shades (all the cool kids are wearing them) and headed to drink some wine!

image.jpg
image.jpg

It was Amigoni's one year anniverary party, so we hit the urban winery up for wine tasting and food trucks!! Well, some of us ate...all of us drank!!  The tasting was great and we liked several of the wines. The Sauvignon Blanc was a crowd favorite and perfect for a hot day!! They also have been for those who don't like wine.

image.jpg

We clearly all had a terrible time!!

image.jpg

How can you not smile? There's so much wine!!

image.jpg

You knows it is probably time to head home when drinking out of the bottle leads to....

Time out and lost sunglasses!

image.jpg

You know what cures a wine hangover, rum soaked bread casserole from Chrissy Tiegen's Cravings cookbook. Because as Chrissy says, rum is for breakfast! Thank you Steph for the delicious breakfast...with champs because we are fancy!!

Another great celebration!! Cheers!
